2 - My view about the educational system in the Philippines

I am really not in favor of the decision of the government to implement the K-12 system here in the Philippines. We are not yet ready for it, it lacks planning and obviously we cant afford to have it yet as of now.

            So what is K-12 program? It means that a student needs to study 12 years of education, six years from elementary and another six years in high school before qualifying to have a bachelors degree. This should solve the problem of Filipinos that cannot qualify in what the world needs a person/graduate should have. The government thinks that this program will make Filipinos qualify in the global competitive world.

            Why would I not agree to this? I mean we will now have a solution for the unemployment in our country. There is nothing wrong with that, with their objectives. The problem is that the Philippines is not yet ready for this change. Just look at the educational system before, we have shorter years in elementary and high school yet we are facing numerous issues and problems in education sector. For example we lack classrooms, teachers, facilities and equipment. Yes we had this before and I believe because of K-12 program this will become worse.

            My stand is that, abolish the K-12 program and start focusing on improving the educational system we have before. For example, give more budget in education sector so that there would be more teachers to teach even the schools in provinces. And so that we can have more classrooms and sufficient equipment and facilities, thus improving the environment needed for learning.

           

            I believe that we have enough years to learn what we need to learn. If we prolong it, imagine how many Filipinos are not capable of studying four years in high school but now that we extend the years, they will be greater and we will produce lesser graduates. We need just to improve the quality of education we have here in our country, with that we will have better graduates and greater in terms of numbers than K-12 program
